Natural Resource Sustainability & Renewal Cluster

To support vibrant economic development, strategies must be implemented to build sustainable water, energy, and land resources and to ensure their efficient use. Finding ways to sustain and apply natural resources is an issue of deep concern for the arid Southwest and the U.S.-Mexico border region, which face critical problems regarding management of natural resources and development of sustainable alternative practices for use of water and energy. These critical problems include water supply, adjudication, and use; development of alternative energy sources to replace depleted fossil fuels; public health issues related to water quality; and ecosystem management and environmental stewardship that will protect public and private lands while supporting economic development.
