Chemical Analysis and Instrumentation Laboratory (CAIL)

Since its inception in 2008, the CAIL lab has delivered advanced mass spectrometry and chemical analyses for >75 on-campus collaborations in disciplines that span four colleges and eleven departments. CAIL supports student research and has a history of research collaboration with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the New Mexico Consortium, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the University of New Mexico, and New Mexico Tech, and numerous academic collaborators both nationally and internationally.

Working with CAIL: The sustainability of CAIL derives its strength through collaboration. Collaborative research projects fund CAIL staff, instrument upkeep/improvement, and supplies used. CAIL staff members interface with collaborating researchers and provide analysis, method development, and student training to ensure high data quality and minimum instrument down-time. The CAIL evaluates collaborations and prioritizes lab activity to maximize funding potential and the impact of laboratory resources while maintaining laboratory sustainability.
